Special Features of Hearing Aids. We have directional microphones as a feature in hearing aids. Directional microphones are features find on hearing aids that are used mostly in noisy places like bar, restaurant or in a public gathering. They operate in such a way that they reduce sound from behind so that it does not interfere with noise in front. They are available in some of the styles of hearing aids i.e. BTE, OE, ITE, Half Shell, and ITC styles. When the noise level goes high the directional earphones turn themselves on since they are automatic. Another feature they have is that they can follow moving sounds or reduce several different sounds at the same time. Noise the reduction is also another feature. This function reduces amplification at the frequencies where there is no noise and speech. Let us take for example a fan running in the background it will speak it as much as it will amplify it. As a result you hear the fan running. It is also designed to transmit both speech and noise at the same time. Some hearing aids are able to manage noise by breaking the frequencies up into smaller pieces. It does not actually reduce noise but it is balancing between speech and noise.

Memory is also one of the features in hearing aids. Memories are just different settings for different situations such as quiet places, noisy places, and music or phone. The two types of memory are a manual memory and electronic memory. These memories are being activated by the use of a push button that allows you to have different settings. The standard memory is put on by the use of a push button while the automatic memory is turned on by the hearing aid itself. The work of the hearing aid is to beep when the memory is on to alert you on which memory you are using. Some hearing aids have combination of both manual and automatic memories.

We also have feedback cancellation. This is the whistling sound that comes back to your ear when you put your hand over it is known as feedback . It is designed in such a way that it prevents that whistling sound from coming back to your ear. Band is also one of the features found in the hearing aids. The a feature that is responsible for adjusting volume in the hearing aids is known as bands. When we have more bands it will also mean more control when your hearing aids are programmed to your ear. Another feature channels. These are features that are used to improve part of the hearing aid that keeps off the loud music. They are mainly responsible for noise reduction. This means the larger the number of channels the more noise it controls.
